The art was commissioned in 1995 and painted by artist Michael Dudash. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the world discovered Pele in Sweden in 1958 as the 17 year old boy brought home the first of Brazil's World Cup titles. He concluded his legendary career almost 20 years later, finishing with 1,282 goals in 1,364 games. Off the field, Pele has been an ambassador of the game and International Peace. In 1978 he received the International Peace Award, and in 1980, an international panel named him Sportsman of the Century. Still an international icon wherever he travels, Pele individually signed 1,282 prints, which represents the total number of goals he scored in his career.
